There is today a great deal of written material that deals with Stockholm's history seen from many perspectives, Stockholmiana, as it stands on the shelf in the library, where you can read about trade, architecture and much, much more.
But what about flowers, trees and edible plants in the past in Stockholm? Växternas Stockholm is the result of an interdisciplinary collaboration between archaeobotanists, Quaternary geologists, archaeologists, Stockholm researchers and pharmacy historians. The goal has been to present the specialists' own research and analyzes carried out up to 2014, before the large Slussen excavations with completely new questions began. It will be the first time that plants in the whole of old Stockholm are published, seen from a cultural-historical perspective; users, cultivation, surrounding vegetation and introduced plant material. Certain plants have been described in more detail, and the reader is invited to delve into their origins, and how they were used long ago. Sometimes we end up far away in time and space.

"Archaeology, history and botany are probably such interesting subjects on their own, so if I were a publisher and were offered a combination of all three, I would not hesitate. How difficult can it be? A book about Stockholm's history viewed from an archaeobotanical perspective seems to me to be an infallible kiosk overturner. The aftertastes on Södermalm can finally be explained." Fredrik Sjöberg, Svenska Dagbladet
"An impressive collection of experts has contributed to this book, where you can read about vegetation in places as diverse as monasteries, graves, gardens, city blocks and shipwrecks, but also about plants at wetlands like Fatburssjön and Laduviken and about medicinal plants in old Stockholm. " Eva-Karin Gyllenberg, Dagens Nyheter
