In this monumental work in large format, Brutus Östling generously shares everything you need to know to be able to take better nature, animal and bird photos.
Here, advice is given on which equipment is best suited depending on where the main interest lies, how to get sharp images of difficult subjects such as birds in flight, but also on how you can consciously work with blur. How do I expose correctly? How do I compose an image? How do I photograph landscapes with starry skies? Does the thinking of a photographer who mainly works with books differ from the thinking of other photography? Brutus' tangible advice and thoughts on photography combined with high-quality image material with many examples will give you the answers you are looking for. Version 2.0 is partly based on the appreciated text in Brutus Östling's first handbook, published in 2013. But the texts have been reworked and a number of new chapters have been added. In addition, it is a completely new image material with new captions. This time, Brutus has also chosen to be responsible for the graphic design himself, in order to be able to give images and text the best possible space. Another news is that the two chapters dealing with the choice of equipment and basic camera settings are now written in collaboration with Christian Nilsson, who for fifteen years was FOTO magazine's responsible technical editor and today runs the website Objektivtest.se. The combined expertise results in a wealth of concrete advice and valuable information, both for you who are complete beginners and for those of you who have already tried nature, animal and bird photography but want to delve deeper into the subject. These chapters, like the entire book in general, are written and presented in an educational, easy-to-read and often entertaining way!
Brutus Östling, born in 1958 in Stockholm, broke through as a bird photographer with the debut book Between the wingtips in 2005. Since then, he has published eleven photo books, most of which have become bestsellers and have also been published in the USA and Great Britain, among others. He has been named a world-class master and nature photographer by a unanimous body of critics. Four of his books have been named the Panda Book of the Year by the World Wide Fund for Nature, WWF. In 2009, he won the prestigious August prize in the non-fiction class with Att surleva dagen together with the lyricist Susanne Åkesson. Since 2011, Brutus also writes the text for his books. Both Winged (2015) and the latest book Under Afrikas himlar (2018) were chosen by WWF as the panda books of those years (best nature book).
